During a trip to New York I made a drawing of everything I ate on the napkin, paper or tablecover that was given to me with my order. Here are some of them. 25 drawings, dimentions variable. 
From Plato’s dismissal of food as a distraction from thought to Kant’s relegation of the palate to the bottom of the hierarchy of the senses, the sense of taste has consistently been devalued by Western aesthetics. Kant is often invoked as evidence that philosophers consider taste as an inferior sense because it belongs to the realm of the private and subjective and does not seem to be required in the development of higher types of knowledge. From a gastrosophical perspective, however, what Kant perceives as a limitation becomes a new field of enquiry that investigates the dialectics of diet and discourse, self and matter, inside and outside. ‘everything i ate in ny' is not only a gastronomical catalog but also an analysis of mi aesthetic decisions. This work functions as a sort of metaphor of my visual diet. One week in the New York’s art scene is not enough to see all the museums and galleries. Who would want to? It is also not enough to eat at all the restaurants. One needs to be selective.
There are shared variables between food and art. In their consumption, there are intrinsic values of content, economics and beauty; sensorial pleasure and taste.
It could be said that this work is a self-portrait that represents the consumption of art.
From the Warhol's hotdog and Hirst’s breakfast pills to Beckett's canned food and Sartre's omelet of cigarette and four stones. If ‘we are what we eat', I believe that as an artist, ‘I am what I see’.
I went to New York in 2006 to approve the acquisition of the electrolysis system for Toledo's print studio in Oaxaca. I made drawings of my food in the place where was served (museums many times). All the drawings where made on the napkin, paper or table cover that was given to me with my order. Coincidently after the trip, the doctor recommended no more meat for a while. The monthly traveling between Mexico and Belgium turned my metabolism a bit lazy. I decided to become vegetarian for a year. I guess it could also be said I am a painting (and printmaking) vegetarian.
I am a good cook, but i can not easily eat everything that is served to me. I have a picky palate and pupil.
Just like my mother say: 'mmmm... poor and delicate'
ESPAÑOL 'everything i ate in ny' no es solo un catalogo gastronómico sino un análisis de decisiones estéticas. Esta obra funciona como una especie de metáfora de mi regulación dietética visual. Una semana en la escena artística de New York no es suficiente para ver todos los museos o todas las galerias. ¿Quién querría hacerlo? Tampoco se puede comer en todos los restaurantes. Hay que ser selectivo. Hay variables compartidas entre la gastronomia y el arte, en su consumo hay valores intrínsecos de contenido nutritivo-filosófico, valores económicos (costo, oferta y demanda), belleza, placer sensorial y finalmente el gusto. Podría decirse que esta obra es un autorretrato que representa el consumo del arte. Desde el hotdog de Warhol y los desayunos encapsulados de Hirst, hasta la comida enlatada de Beckett o el omelett de cigarro, cafe y cuatro piedras de Sartre... Si 'somos lo que comemos', creo que como artista, soy lo que veo. Las fechas no las recuerdo bien pero fuí a NY en el 2006, viajé a conocer y aprobar la adquisicion del sistema de electrólisis para grabado del taller de gráfica del maestro Toledo en Oaxaca. Todos los dibujos fueron realizados en el lugar donde me sirvieron. (muchos de ellos fueron los restaurantes de los museos. Y los dibujos se hicieron en el papel, mantel o servilleta que me dieron con los alimentos. Coincidentemente al regresar de ese viaje el doctor me recomendó dejar de comer carne por un tiempo por razones de salud. (los cambios continuos de dieta por vivir un mes en Bélgica y un mes en México hicieron que mi organismo procesara menos la comida) Yo decidí tomar en serio la tarea y fui vegetariano por un año. Supongo que se puede decir que soy vegetariano estéticamente hablando repecto a la pintura y la gráfica. Hago ambas creo no tan mal. Pero no fácilmente me como todo lo que me sirven. Tengo delicados el paladar y la pupila.
Como dice mi madre: "mmmm... pobre y delicado"
